Double C Stables – programs for homeschoolers

Since Jody and I homeschool our own daughter Jessica, and our barn manager Steven Keen was also homeschooled, we thought it fitting that we offer special courses and opportunities for home schooled children.

Throughout the year we will offer 3 day “camps” in which your children can come to the barn three mornings: usually Monday, Wednesday & Friday from 9am – til 1.

We ask that you send a bag lunch & drinks.

In this camp environment, children will learn to interact with horses and what goes into having and maintaining a horse. While we do accomplish beginner level riding, there is more emphasis placed on proper communication with horses, (how they think, what makes them move, etc.) care of (including feeding, grooming and troubleshooting) and barn and pasture maintenance & safety.

Our biggest goal is that your child finish up the week more knowledgeable about horses and especially, that they are able to interact with them safely.

Three day camps for Homeschooler’s are held on demand as a large enough group dictates we set the date.

There is $25 registration fee that will also cover group lessons, private lessons, any additional camps, and / or our courses designed especially for homeschoolers.

The cost for the three day camp is $150 and there is a maximum of 6 students and a minimum of 4.

Junior horsemanship lessons. for young children age 4 to 7

6 week course. 25.00 registration fee; and 70.00 each; for once a week, 45 minute each, horsemanship lessons. Preferrably group of 6

Horsemanship I – 6 week course – once weekly 9am – 11am usually on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

In Horsemanship I, children will learn barn safety, equine behavioral science, maintenance, grooming, and beginning riding. It’s similar to the camp above just slowed down and once a week. Course work is included and a certificate of competition will be awarded.

The cost is $150 per child, with a small discount for siblings.

Horsemanship II – a continuation of Horsemanship I with a focus on more independence, individual tasks, more advanced riding. More emphasis on equine behavioral science and students will be tested on ground work and their ability to move a horse effectively on the ground in the round pen.

Cost $150 per child, will a small discount for siblings.

BONUS: Students that sign up for both Horsemanship I & II are eligible for discounts on private lessons & leasing. Ask for details.

Stable Management is an eight week course – the first day of the course is on a Saturday with owner Dawn Cook. The remaining course days are during the week.

This is a super fun, interactive class that we feel would prepare youth to understand the in’s and out’s of managing a large boarding and training operation. It should give them significant information to make an informed decision as to a career path in the Equestrian industry.

We recommend children be 11 – 17 for this course.

Ea. Student will be required to bring a 3 ring binder – and homework will be assigned. This group of students will also learn about marketing and will be in charge of an event scheduled at the end of the course.

The cost for this course is $199 per student. Direct instruction will occur for up to 2 hours per course day, but students are welcomed at any barn activities for observation and some participation. Additionally these students can accrue “credits” that would go toward individual lessons by working outside of normal class time.
