Jody Cook held an Achievable Horsemanship demonstration on Easter weekend at Kate's Western Store In Blairsville, GA. The AH demo consisted of starting the young horse, as shown in the right top picture, using Terra, an Appaloosa mare starting training, and finished with a riding demonstration using his equine pal, Charlie. Jody was showing the results that anyone can get with applying consistency, patience, and repetition in their training. Jody rode bridle-less and showed Charlie stopping at a walk, trot and canter by using his seat; and finished with a bow to the audience.

We'd like to thank Kate's Western Wear for hosting the Achievable Horsemanship demo & for their support!

Achievable Horsemanship Demo at the Union County Saddle Club

MAKING HORSEMANSHIP MAKE SENSE

While many horse owners struggle to bridge the communication barrier between man and horse by watching a DVD or a television program, 20 plus horse enthusiasts got an education in understanding this past Saturday.

Blairsville native, Jody Cook and his wife, Dawn, of Double C Stables, just off hwy 325 hosted an Achievable Horsemanship demo on Sunday, October 29th at the Union County Saddle Club arena. Free to the public, the Cook's mission for the demo's is to introduce horse owners to the concept of gentle and doable techniques for horse training.

"The term "horse-breaking" is so ingrained into society as a whole that most people believe that training a horse requires forceful, if not fear inducing tactics ... and it's just not true.", said Jody.

Understanding that horses are prey animals, Jody and Dawn have successful developed a system of training that is based on logic and reason.  Jody considers himself a perpetual student of master horsemen that have come before him.

"I learn something new almost every time I work with a horse, they are all different and they are all pretty fascinating."

The demo given on Sunday was an introduction for horse owners to Jody and Dawn's gentle teaching method.

"It's more about teaching people how to understand the horse and communicate with it, than it is about teaching horses to do anything ... they are born with the ability to do anything we ask of them under saddle, so its boils down to a simple language barrier and earning their respect," Jody said.

The Cook's plan more demos for the public in the near future and are always available for workshops, lessons and horse training.

Buddy's Memorial

April 25, 2005 - April 29, 2005

Our Lil' Buddy who left this world too soon. You touched our hearts so dramatically in your short little life. Sometimes we don't understand why things happen the way they do, but God took you home to greener pastures. We love you always and will miss you. You will always be in our hearts. We love and miss you….Your family

PS...I will always cherish the memory of laying next to you on that stall floor, napping, and singing you to sleep with "amazing grace". I love you and loved taking care of you. I will miss you but you will always be in my heart!. Love, dc

A Memory

Written by Jessica Cook, 2006, on the 1 year Anniversary

Such a sad day, that spring of 2005. Yes, a death in the family but not your typical family member. A horse, I called a member of my family.

Night and nights we sat up till 1, hoping and praying he would make it through.  Night after night the vet came out.

IV's and stomach tubes, such a sad sight.

After five nights of no sleep at all, our hard work didn't pay off.

He was put to sleep, peaceful as angels.

Though we all knew it was for the best.

Now he's a memory, a picture on the wall.

Our lil' Buddy in Heaven, watching over us all.
