I couldn't put it down. I have an even great appreciation for him now, sad he had gone from this world, but amazed at the huge legacy of music he has left behind. He discusses the role of Pot and LSD in the visionary growth of a social movement that eventually encompassed our entire culture, influencing every aspect of life in America today.
I wish I had learned of the books existence twenty years ago when I was teaching 20th century Literature--"they can't hide us anymore" is an engaging and enlightening read. I've been a long time fan of Richie Havens and his music but never realized his genius in writing.
Keep a computer or ipad nearby to on all the references to places, things and names as he teases your appetite to learn more. If you lived in the 60's, and 70's you'll love finding out the "rest of the story" as he grew up in the Village and became friends with the most unlikely artists.
